Climate change is most likely due to increased greenhouse emissions that has had a noticeable effect on the average global temperature. As temperatures increase the weather patterns are interrupted causing extreme conditions such as those observed over Christmas in 2013.
As long as politicians deny the importance of green tax, the oil and gas companies influence governments and as long as we (the public) don't see how we can make a difference I don't see how this is going to get any better.
In the end it all boils down to risk management. The stronger our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the lower the risk of extreme climate impacts. The higher our emissions, the larger climate changes we'll face, which also means more expensive adaptation, more species extinctions, more food and water insecurities, more income losses, more conflicts, and so forth.
