Another scare mongering 'invasion of the insects' story, this time not about spiders in our homes, but slugs in our gardens. I was glad to see they have mentioned humane disposal of slugs and encouraging natural predators, however they could have gone a step further and reminded the public about the danger of slug pellets to wildlife. I'm also surprised they did not talk about the parasites that slugs carry, particularly lung worm, which can be passed on to predators including hedgehogs. Lung worm can also be passed on to cats and dogs from slugs and their trails and can be fatal if not treated.
Britain must brace for a bucolic invasion as millions of slugs and snails, led by the cannibal Spanish breed, are set to swarm gardens across the country, a new report warns. Experts predict that this will be the worst ever year on record for the slimy garden pests due to a particularly warm winter, with above average temperatures recorded for December and January.
